Political parties have been the subject of a recent resurgent interest among political philosophers, with prominent contributions spanning liberal to socialist literatures arguing for more positive appraisal role in operation democratic representation and public deliberation. In this article, I argue similar re-evaluation within contemporary republicanism. Contemporary republicanism displays wariness parties. Philip Pettit’s paradigmatic account republican democracy, rare mentions often stress their tendency lead factionalism or corruption. Others working tradition such as Richard Bellamy Ian Shapiro provide extended discussion parties, but limit theoretical function enabling electoral competition. that play far significant promoting non-domination than this. addition competition, show are also essential effective two other components democracy: contestation interest-formation. further understanding these terms is compatible democracy generally, addressing worry will produce factional rather common-good oriented decisions.
